- The Lucid Dreaming version of ZMax is a more affordable version of our ZMax Total package. It contains the subset of features most important for Lucid Dreaming.

- ZMax LD has the only true EEG based REM detection offered by any device both consumer or medical. It is the result of years of R&D in artifact modeling and detection, and multi-sensor pattern recognition. This is the reason its price is much higher than consumer devices built by non-experts, which will not detect REM reliably and whose operation cannot verified. ZMax shows you, in the morning, the entire picture of what happened throughout the night. It shows when it detected REM, and when it decided to stimulate (this is seen in one of the pictures above)

- When ZMax detects that your brain is in the Rapid Eye Movement sleep state (having a dream), ZMax will stimulate you using a somewhat configurable stimulus of light and vibrations. It can also play back any sound on your PC, or even activate an application (for instance an EXE file that controls a custom peripheral developed by you).

- Until end of March 2021, for WOLD (World of Lucid Dreaming) e-mail list subscribers only: with every purchase we will review one recording (night) of your choice, and provide a free assessment of your sleep EEG phenotype, recording quality, and REM detection/stimulation results. - This is a Windows only product (Windows 8 or above required). It will run on any semi-modern PC, even a laptop from 4-5 years ago.

- Please do not be misled by Microsoft XBox's beautiful commercial. Hypnodyne ZMax does not record your dreams in visual format nor can anything else. It only records your body movement, heart rate, eye movements and brain waves. These cannot be used to reconstruct visuals. Fortunately it doesn't matter, for lucid dreaming. All you need is REM detection and stimulation!

- This is not a bluetooth device. ZMax transmits several channels of high resolution biosignals, with a miniaturized battery that must last the whole night. Therefore ZMax has a custom (proprietary) wireless protocol and hardware, with a dongle that must be connected to a PC to receive data. Ideally, a laptop PC must be near your bed for ZMax to work (if you have a desktop a couple meters away it will most likely also work, and you can separately buy a USB extension cable to have the antenna high above the PC to improve link quality). The software dims the screen for you when you press a button, so that your sleep is not disturbed.

- ZMax is the most fully featured and sophisticated system for Lucid Dreaming available. It is the only sleep wearable used in sleep research to collect high quality data.

- This is not a one-button operation device. It is not Remee or NovaDreamer or Zeo. You should make sure to read our ZMax for Lucid Dreaming Product page in its entirety, and watch the youtube videos on that page to understand what you're getting into and make sure the level of sophistication is interesting to you and not daunting. The youtube videos also teach you about your sleep and explain the significance of what you will see in a ZMax recording.

- Stimulation can be achieved according to two paradigms. Easy mode (most users): just choose your REM detection and stimulation preferences from the software using a graphical user interface. Advanced mode (uber geek oneirocosmonauts only): you can use javascript to program the real-time functioning of the device more precisely and intelligently.

- ZMax uses custom solid gel electrode patches. Conductive fabric looks good in photographs and is convenient, but it can never give a similar quality as low impedance Ag/AgCl gel. Ag/AgCl (Silver chloride) is the only material used in professional recording in polysomnography. Additionally gel feels better on the skin than metallic woved fabric because it is cooler and softer. The LD pack comes with 10 electrode patches. Each patch can be reused for months without noticeable loss in signal quality. However since they are made of gel, you may want to use a new one every 14 nights or so for hygiene and so they look nice and new. In that case, 10 patches will last 140 days.

- We cannot help with learning how to lucid dream.

- We cannot help with javascript programming in any way. Please do not buy this product for the Javascript functions if you are not a programmer. For instance, we provide a variety of scripts such as the Voice Dream Diary and Suggestion Phrases script. The Voice Dream Diary script programs one of the buttons on the head-worn unit to start and end a microphone recording, so that you can store a voice memo of a dream you just had, using your PC microphone. This allows you to keep a dream diary without interfering with your sleep by having to switch on the light and write it down. The Suggestion Phrases script uses voice synthesis to play back a set of affirmations related to becoming lucid in your dreams. These are played for a period of time at the beginning of the session (when you go to sleep). To configure the interval and length of the Suggestion Phrases, you need to edit the Javascript file. If you wanted to make a script that incorporates both the VDD and SP functions, you would need to know how to copy/paste the right way which would require you to understand programming. We only supply these scripts as a reference, and cannot assist in their configuration, merging, customization or further development.

- No hardware can produce a lucid dream by itself. You must train yourself to perform dream checks throughout the day in response to seeing lights or feeling tactile sensations. ZMax can stimulate you with light, sound and vibrations when it detects that you are having a dream. Then, in response to this stimulus, you will perform the dream check in the dream, realize you are dreaming, and become lucid. There is work involved in creating this habit.
