Epic Games, creators of Unreal Engine, have awarded a "MegaGrant" to Hypnodyne to develop a next generation
neuro/biofeedback VR experience using ZMax.
ZMax was chosen for the year-long sleep study at Vernadsky Antarctic research station.
You can follow the expedition and Dr Danilenko's updates on our social media!

"We are ZMax in several ongoing projects at Stockholm University and Karolinska Institutet. We are mainly using ZMax for EEG recordings across many nights in peoples' own homes, and also in hospital settings where we need to have direct online monitoring of health-care personnel, sleeping during on-call shifts. From the lab we monitor EEG online from several people at the same time when they are sleeping at home or at work"
"In terms of reliability, validity, comfort and ability to modify, ZMax is the clear leader in the field of sleep trackers. Having such a device will allow easier and more accurate logitudinal studies on sleep, an area that is currently under-researched"
"We are currently using ZMax to collect dream reports in REM periods across a night of sleep in participants at home, and to attempt to induce lucid dreams in participants using visual and vibration stimulation during REM sleep. We have had success inducing lucid dreams with visual stimulation in the laboratory, but ZMax opens the door to allowing participants to sleep at home and have lucid dreams in their natural environment, without ever needing to sleep in the laboratory. This is truly exciting technology for lucid dream researchers, and easy-to-use for participants"

"ZMax is truly ushering a new era of sleep science. It is comfortable to wear, easy to use, highly programmable, reasonably priced and allows for an incredibly fast data collection. It has accelerated my lucid dream research, allowing me to test various stimulation protocols and patterns and sift through hypotheses quickly and efficiently. Studies that would have taken me months, even years to conduct, can now be done easily, in a matter of weeks and for a fraction of the cost. Besides aiding lucid dream research, ZMax applications are countless; From investigating the impact of various variables of interest on sleep, to testing out the efficacy of sleep related products."
"I have been using the ZMax daily for about 6 months now. From a user perspective ZMax is easy to apply and use and very comfortable to wear. All other EEG-based sleep systems I have tried before the ZMax were not practical enough to use on a daily basis, whilst the ZMax is."
RESEARCH GRADE EEG SENSOR
Consumer oriented EEG headbands prioritize look and feel over signal accuracy. They use dry electrodes which
perform poorly and preclude accurate sleep scoring. Do not believe the hype: no amount of
post-processing can recover
data that has not been captured.
ZMax uses the highest quality Ag/AgCl biocompatible hydrogel for its custom, multi-use electrode patch.

SIMPLE WEARING AND DATA COLLECTION
MULTI-NIGHT RECORDING
Do away with the costs and hassle associated with data collection.
Your participants do not need to spend the night at your sleep lab. Nor do you need to help
"rig" the patient with a million cables. Simply brief your participants on how to wear ZMax and
the simple, 1-button operation required to start recording. Now you can record sleep with maximum patient comfort,
in their familiar sleeping environment.
*You can also view the extended how to wear video intended for patients/participants.
When recording to the internal memory card, sleep data is recorded in sequential files.
This mechanism requires no patient intervention or PC connection. It is therefore possible for the patient to borrow ZMax
and easily and autonomously acquire multiple nights of sleep data. A memory card can hold 8 nights of sleep data.
RAW DATA
COLLABORATE
ZMax EDF files are compatible with your favorite software.
You can even grab real-time data with simple TCP/IP code (examples are provided
that show the meaning of the byte-code data).
With ZLab you can autoscore ZMax files for a very reasonable fee,
collaborate with other investigators, track participant recruitment and briefing for your study and score and store multiple hypnograms.

REMOTE VIDEO CAPTURE
The ZMax platform allows you to capture video remotely through any windows webcam. We stock infrared webcams that can record video in a completely
dark room. Frames are stored only when the image changes, to save storage space.
Frames are synchronized to data samples. HDScorer provides a seamless experience browsing data and video.
Video PSG features are available in the PRO version of HDRecorder/HDscorer.
REPORT CREATION
Based on the scoring, a full sleep report is output. The sleep report includes common indicators such as
sleep onset latency, REM latency and sleep efficiency. It also includes spectrograms and charts.
The sleep
report can be exported in XML format for processing.
Wireless transmission uses a proprietary protocol (not Bluetooth) to achieve a steady ultra-low 3.5ms latency.
This is important if you wish to code some real-time stimulation protocol that requires fast processing (for example potentiation of
delta waves).
MARKERS
Markers (annotations) allow you to mark portions of your recording. They can be point-like to mark precise time offsets, or range-like to highlight
sleep features. Markers can be saved in text format for later processing. Markers are useful
if you want to focus on specific sleep feature morphology, or if you want to store notes about sleep events, or mark questions to discuss with
other investigators.
SCORING
Score your own data
The bundled HDScorer software can be used to open ZMax EDF files and score epochs with no restrictions. You can also import ZMax EDF files
into other software packages for scoring.
Outsource manual scoring to us
Hypnodyne offers manual sleep scoring of ZMax data by qualified sleep technologists who are experienced with the precise montage and sensors used by ZMax. We can score even just one recording.
Hypnodyne autoscoring
Hypnodyne offers an autoscoring service based on our proprietary phenotype detection and scoring algorithms, independently developed in 8 years
of research. Autoscored files also include a wealth of features
such as REMs, delta waves, k complexes, sleep spindles, sweat artifacts and more.
ZMax is able to stream data over the internet for real-time
monitoring of sleep. The peer to peer connection is established
in a way similar to Skype or Teamviewer. The remote patient can
either make or receive a network call. The ZMax software
includes provisions for opening router ports using UPnP when
necessary.
SCRIPTING
You can use javascript to script ZMax behavior. For instance, you can detect REM sleep and play an MP3 sound in response. You can also configure the functions of the three ZMax buttons. For instance, you can configure the middle button to turn off the monitor. Or play some music as you are falling asleep and use the right button to stop the playback. The scripting possibilities are still under heavy development and more possibilities will be added soon - if you have a particular application in mind please write us.
WRITE YOUR OWN SOFTWARE
ZMax exposes a TCP/IP data socket. You can connect to this socket using any programming language (MATLAB, Python, PHP, C++, C#, Java, Visual Basic etc).
