ZMax Connectivity Options

Use case: researcher and patient at the same location

When the researcher and patient are at the same location, internet connectivity is not necessary. ZMax can either stream data wirelessly to the researcher's PC or store data internally to the memory card. In both cases, signal quality can first be previewed wirelessly.

Use case: remote researcher dials patient's device

In this case the researcher and patient are at different locations but both have internet connectivity. The researcher is the caller and the patient the receiver. The patient first starts the ZMax server on a Windows PC or Android mobile device. Then communicates connection information to the researcher. The researcher dials the patient's IP address and a connection is established. Data begins streaming automatically. The patient can go to sleep. As in the previous examples, the researcher can decide to continue monitoring the data as it is being saved on his or her hard disk, or to initiate internal memory card storage, in which case the monitoring and disk storage terminate and the researcher can leave, confident that the data will be recorded without requiring further intervention.

As in the previous case, the researcher and patient are at different locations but both have internet connectivity. The patient is the caller and the researcher the receiver. The researcher first starts the ZMax recording software on a Windows PC. Then communicates connection information to the patient. The patient dials the researcher's IP address and a connection is established.

The advantage when the patient is the caller is that connectivity restrictions on the patient's router, firewall and at the ISP level are bypassed. Additionally, because the ZMax server is also an Android application, Mobile Data can be used to stream the data (about 200MB for a night's recording). This simplifies the process because the researcher never has to diagnose connectivity issues on the patient's side. The researcher can even provide a pre-configured mobile device to the user if needed.
